Duskfade Demo Walkthrough — Tick Town to Wrath

This Duskfade demo walkthrough assumes you already installed the free build on Steam, PS5, or Xbox—see Demo Download if not. You play Zirian with Cuckoo, using Minutero and mobility tools to push through Tick Town, preview biomes, and defeat Wrath. The route below prioritizes early Upgrade Gears that unlock double jumps, air dashes, glides, and grapples so later sections feel like mastery rather than struggle.

Before you leave the hub

The demo opens near a central hub that mirrors the full game’s region structure. Talk to any NPC prompts, open the skill menu, and note three collectible families: Upgrade Gears (skill trees for Minutero, Zirian abilities, and Cuckoo), Clock Heart Pieces (three combine into a health upgrade), Star Shards, and Multicoloured Flasks. Skim How to Play if ability names blur together.

Spend your first Upgrade Gears on mobility before raw damage. The demo’s platforming gates assume you can chain jump → double jump → air dash → glide and attach hook-shot grapples to clockwork anchors. Movement Tech explains how to practice those chains safely.

Tick Town — first major zone

Tick Town is the demo’s headline locale: clockwork houses, oversized gear motifs, and enemies that teach block timing and Temporal Shift (perfect dodge time freeze). Methodical approach:

  • Main street loop: Follow quest markers to learn basic Minutero combos and Cuckoo’s scouting pings. Clear street packs to earn your first Upgrade Gear.
  • Side scaffolding: Look for grapple points above the market lane. A shard and flask often sit on roofs requiring a double jump into air dash.
  • Tutorial combat room: Experiment with Blast Attack and the shotgun-like gadget blast. These tools matter in Wrath.

If difficulty spikes, drop to a lower setting—the demo ships four difficulty presets. Details in What to Expect.

Ethereal forest transition

Leaving Tick Town, the path bends into an ethereal forest biome with wider gaps and glide tutorials. Priorities:

  1. Collect a Clock Heart Piece tucked along a branch route—health helps forgiving platforming.
  2. Unlock or upgrade glide before the longest horizontal gap.
  3. Mark optional flask colors you cannot reach yet; note them in the Demo Checklist for backtracking.

Enemies here mix ranged and melee; use Temporal Shift to punish slow projectiles, then close with a grapple finisher.

Underwater and mines segment

The demo previews underwater traversal and mine tunnels with tighter camera angles. Underwater sections slow air dashes but reward vertical grapples on mine carts and piston gears.

  • Oxygen and pathing: Stay near lit rails; optional gear sits behind breakable clock panels.
  • Mine descent: Watch for floor traps that telegraph through audio ticks. A Star Shard often hides behind a timed piston—wait for the second tick, dash through.
  • Upgrade checkpoint: Before surfacing, ensure at least one point went into Cuckoo upgrades if you struggle with hook-shot range.

Controller players should verify trigger sensitivity in Controller Setup before underwater fights.

Dunes, cloudy heights, and ruins

Mid-demo routing opens dune-like wastes and cloudy heights that test glide stamina and diagonal grapples. Ruins introduce clockpunk lore about eternal night and the Clock Tower without spoiling the Allira rescue arc.

Ruins combat mixes shielded enemies with aerial adds. Rotate Blast Attack to break shields, Temporal Shift to avoid telegraphed sweeps, and gadget blasts for add control. If you are under-geared, detour for any missed Upgrade Gears in Tick Town via fast-travel if the demo provides it; otherwise backtrack through the forest shortcut noted on your map.

Pre-boss preparation

Before Wrath, you should ideally have:

  • At least one Clock Heart upgrade (three pieces combined).
  • Mobility nodes enabling double jump, air dash, glide, and grapple.
  • One point in Blast Attack or gadget damage for phase breaks.

Review How to Beat Wrath for arena layout, charged attack tells, and lava edge safety. Practice grapple routes in Movement Tech if you keep dying to knockback.

Wrath boss — demo finale

Wrath is a multi-phase encounter combining platforming perch points and DPS checks. General pattern:

  1. Phase one: Learn dodge timings; save Temporal Shift for slow telegraphs, not panic rolls.
  2. Phase two: Adds spawn—use gadget blasts to clear space, then grapple back to central platform.
  3. Phase three: Increased lava pressure—stay on upper grapple anchors, punish recovery windows with Minutero combos.

Defeating Wrath rolls credits and ends the demo slice. It does not access the full Master Clockmakers or Despair story beats reserved for retail.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers based on the demo and official pre-launch info.

What is the recommended demo upgrade order?

Prioritize mobility—double jump, air dash, glide, grapple—before damage. Cuckoo range helps mines and Wrath; see [How to Play](/guides/how-to-play/) for tree details.

Can I backtrack for missed collectibles?

Yes in most demo zones. Track misses with the [Demo Checklist](/tools/demo-checklist/) and revisit Tick Town scaffolding early.

What level comes after Wrath in the demo?

Nothing—the demo ends at Wrath. Full-game regions like the Clock Tower arrive with the August 13, 2026 launch.
